Born from a 1934 amateur event, Gent-Wevelgem has evolved into a centerpiece of the Flemish spring calendar. The route is defined by the flat, wind-swept plains of De Moeren and the punchy, cobbled ascents of the Heuvelland. Central to the race is the Kemmelberg, a brutal 156-meter peak featuring savage gradients. On these steep sectors, pure climbers must capitalize by launching explosive attacks to shatter the field before the flat run-in. Puncheurs will look to use their snap to bridge gaps on the technical, unpaved "plugstreets" where traction is limited. Meanwhile, powerful rouleurs must maintain a high tempo on the open roads to neutralize breakaways and force a sprint.
