Summer Camp #6- Climb & Grind – VO2 Bursts into Tempo
59m64 tss
Training ability
Primary - Muscular Endurance
Goal/Target of session - Build climbing strength and endurance by combining hard out-of-the-saddle VO2 efforts with sustained tempo riding to improve efficiency and fatigue resistance.
-
This session is designed to simulate the demands of sustained climbing, where you’ll need to push hard over steep sections before settling into a strong rhythm. By combining short, out-of-the-saddle VO2 efforts with longer tempo blocks, you’ll build muscular endurance, improve climbing efficiency, and get comfortable handling fatigue.
-
Session Breakdown:
Warm-up: Gradual build with z2 endurance
Intervals:
Short, explosive VO2 max efforts (out of the saddle) to simulate attacking steep gradients.
Followed by a longer tempo block to sustain effort under fatigue, just like on a long climb.
Recover and repeat.
Cool-down: Easy spinning to flush out the legs.
This workout will help you develop the strength and pacing skills needed for climbing.
